World Aids Day: 1 December

We’ve all had so much to think about with the pandemic that it’s been very easy to lose track of some of the other diseases that we’ve lived with for a very long time.

But that doesn’t change the fact that roughly one in five South Africans still lives with HIV and/or AIDS.

The good news is that this is no longer the death sentence that it used to be. The virus can be treated, and managed, and HIV-positive people can live long, happy and fulfilling lives.

Each year on 1 December, countries across the world unite to promote awareness around HIV and AIDS, and to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

You can get involved by:

  • Getting tested so that you know your status. You can protect those around you by knowing whether you are HIV-positive.
  • Buying and wearing a red awareness ribbon. All proceeds go towards AIDS research and upliftment of AIDS patients.
  • Visiting https://www.worldaidsday.org/ to educate yourself and pass on the message to those around you.
